May 10-12, 2008 Service Unit Camp Out is scheduled for this weekend. It does fall on Mother's Day weekend but it is not a family event due to limited space. Our girls will ride horses and swim at Camp Bette Perot this year.

March 24, 2008 Service Unit meeting Service Unit Team members met at 6:30 followed by the leader meeting at 7:30 at First Presbyterian Church of Grand Prairie.

March 10-16, 2008 Girls Scouts of Grand Prairie Kicked off Girl Scout week Monday night with a birthday bash. There was cake, punch, and lots of silly songs.

February 23, 2008 Essay Contest Nicole C of troop 363 won an adorable Build a Bear teddy dressed as a Brownie Girl Scout! See her Winning Essay and the other entries.

February 22-23, 2008 Crystal's Lock-in and World Thinking Day Celebration Nearly 100 girls partied the whole night through at this fun event.

February 25, 2008 Service Unit meeting Let's get ready for Birthday week!

January 28, 2008 Service Unit meeting This month's meeting was all about the bling! Did you know leaders can get awards too? A leader who does a good job can be nominated by other troop adults or girls to receive various awards, dpeending on years of service and previuos awards earned.

December 15, 2007 Ornament Exchange-In an effort to raise money for Family Partnership to support Girl Scout camps and services for those unable to afford it otherwise, Service Unit 223 hosted an ornament make and take party.

November 26, 2007 Cookie Training-This month's Service Unit meeting was all about the cookies. Cookie parents from each troop came to learn about the Girl Scout Cookie Program.

October 27, 2007 Roller Boo-Girls from all over Grand Prairie came to the Forum Roller World for this fun skating party, costume contest, and for a celebration of our faounder, Juliette Low's birthday.

October 12-14, 2007 SS Adventure-Volunteer Retreat at Camp Rocky Point What fun we had hanging out with other leaders and learning new tricks! Classes offered included lashing (yes, you too can make a table out of sticks and twine!), geocaching, and lots more.

September 2007 Recruitment events-Participation was wonderful! We had girls from all over town come to get a little taste of Girl Scouts. Troops ran various booths and there was even a Girl Scout uniform fashion show. All told, more than 150 new Girl Scouts were signed up at these three events.

August 27, 2007 School Started.

August 20, 2007 Service Unit team and leader meetings was held on this day. This was a change from the normal date due to the first day of school.

Thanks to the wonderful folks at Fresh Express here in Grand Prairie, we had a lovely salad dinner at this meeting. Our thanks go to Tammy Patton for making the arrangements through her husband's workplace! Next month will be Chicken Sketti provided by Janet Maher.

August 11, 2007 Service Unit Team Kick Off event was held on this day. We have opted for a "South Pacific" theme. Service Unit team members attending the Kick-Off dressed as either island women or sailors in Blue dungaree pants and dungaree shirts. A few others came as tourists. The end result was that Grand Prairie Service Unit tied for Best Dressed!

July 23, 2007 Service Unit team and leader meetings was held. Service unit team members will met at 6:30. Leaders and parents joined us for the leader meeting at 7:30. Primary agenda issues included the details of the recruitment events coming up in September and ways to improve our performance and strive for the President's Award for 2007-2008.

May 18-20, 2007 Service Unit Camp out was a real hit. A night hike, the climbing wall, campfire and smore's, and many other fun camp related activities provided a good time for around 100 participants at Whispering Cedars.

May 7, 2007 Service Unit Leader Appriciation Dinner. This year's dinner was held at the Oasis at Joe Pool Lake. The food was terrific and there was fun to be had by all with the "surprise goodie bag" lotto, followed by several rounds of trading. Awards were presented as follows:

  • Outstanding Leader-Sue B., Kim S., Debra S., Kristy B., Grace B., Janet M., Teresa T.

Congratulations to all these wonderful ladies and thank you for all of your hard work suppoting Girl Scouts in Grand Prairie.

April 23, 2007 Service Unit meeting. Major topics included the camp out next month, the dinner on may 7th, and the fall recruitment events in September. For more details, check the news page.

March 10, 2007 Canned Food Drive collected 2470 cans were collected by Girl Scouts all over Grand Prairie. The cans were distributed to three local charities. Girl Scouts received letters of thanks from Brighter Tomorrows and Grand Prairie United Charities for our efforts.

February 26, 2007 Spring Registration has begun!! Make plans to attend the next Service Unit meeting to pick up your packets if you haven't already.

February 5, 2007 is the Special Recruitment Meeting of the Service Unit Team to hash out the details of our recruitment plans for next year. (Troop leaders are not expected to attend, due to limited space, unless they are also on the Service Unit Teams.) The plan created at this meeting is set to be revealed at the February 26th Service Unit meeting.

February 2, 2007 A Lock-In was held for Brownie level and older girls. Each attendee will recieved 40 game tokens. A pizza, salad and desert buffet was served for the first two hours of the event.

January 21, 2006 The Cookie Orders have been placed and the tasty snacks are on thier way! Get Ready for the start of Booth Sale Season!

January 20, 2007 “Be Red Cross Ready Initiative” kicked-off. Volunteers are being trained in disaster readiness and shelter operations free of charge. Some classes are online. Once certified within the Dallas area, volunteers will be certified nationwide to volunteer with any national disaster- if you so choose. Contact Jennifer Tijerina for more details.

December 9, 2006 The Ornament Swap Party was held and girls from several troops came to a pot luck style meal and traded ornaments.

December 4, 2006 was the Cookie Training meeting. Kathy gave everyone the scoop on changes to the program and passed out packets for each troop based on current registration numbers. Any girl wishing to participate in the cookie sale must be registered on or before January 5th, when the cookie sale officially begins for this year. Any girl not registered or owing money from last year's sale will not be allowed to particpate. If you have girls you need to register or if your troop can accomodate additional girls, please contact the Registar. If your troop has questions or need additional info about the cookie sale, please contact our Cookie Coordinator.

December 2, 2006 was the city of Grand Prairie's Winter Wonderland celebration. Girls from all over town came to this fun event which included hay rides, horse drawn carriages, carnival food, bounce houses, music and plenty of fun for all. The event conculded with the lighting of the official city Christmas tree.

November 27, 2006 at 6:30 There was a Service Unit Team Meeting. Congratulations to Terresa Tate on her appointment to the Service Unit Team as the Julitte Coordinator.

November 18, 2006 was Grand Prairie's Texas Recycle Day event. Info and hands on fun about recycling and composting in Grand Prairie will be provided. Participants worked on a petal, try-it and badges related to recycling and environmental concerns at this event.

October 23, 2006 There was a Service Unit Team Meeting and Service Unit Leader Meeting.

October 21, 2006 Grand Prairie Service Unit 223 hosted a Song Fest. Girls and adults from troops around Grand Prairie gathered to learn new songs and socialize.

October 20, 2006 Leaders from all over Tejas Council gathered at Camp Bette Perot for a Leader Retreat. Leaders were able to take courses in games, turning trash into treasures, beading and much more. Council has let it be known that the next retreat will be held in February 2008 at Camp Rocky Point, so mark your calendars!

September 30, 2006 Girls from various troops attended the City of Grand Prairie's Trinity River Awareness Day event.

September 30, 2006 Delegates from Service Unit 223 attended a special meeting reguarding the realignment of councils in North Texas. More info on the the upcoming realignment is available here.

September 25, 2006 Service Unit Team Meeting and Service Unit Leader Meeting was held.

September 15-17, 2006 Service Unit 223 hosted a campout at Camp Bette Perot. Girls rode horses, swam in the huge pool, and many other camp related activities.

July 29, 2006 Girls and Leaders from Troops 1004, 1322, 1173, 570 of Grand Prairie conducted a Flag Ceremony for the Grand Opening of the Bowles Life Center.
